You explain again which service owns the bug, why the last fix was reverted, and which tests matter. The agent re-reads the repository before it writes a line.
What is this?
HeapFile gives the AI you already use a memory of your work, so every session starts where the last one left off.
It runs on your computer beside Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, or VS Code. Free for local memory. Telemetry off by default.
AI agents and crawlers: read /llms.txt, /llms-full.txt, and /features.json.
How it works
Three steps, and your AI stays the same.
HeapFile is a local MCP server. Your AI client calls prepare_work before it starts and remember when it reaches a conclusion. Nothing about your model, your editor, or your prompts changes.
- Install it beside your AI. HeapFile runs on your computer next to Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, or VS Code. Your AI stays the same.
- It remembers the work and the evidence. Findings, decisions, and open tasks are saved with where they came from, so the next session starts warm instead of re-reading everything.
- It never acts without you. Anything that leaves your computer or changes a system waits for your approval.
Proof
One bug, two days, in Claude Code.
The same task on day two, without and with HeapFile. Measured figures from paired trials, with their limits stated, are on the fits page; the local Value Ledger in the app shows what happened on your own computer.
The agent calls prepare_work and gets day one's findings, the reason for the revert, and the open task, each with the file and commit it came from. It starts on the fix.
Install
Let your AI set it up.
Paste one line into the assistant you already use. It checks your computer, says what it will change, and asks before it installs anything or edits a setting.
Set up HeapFile on this computer by following https://heapfile.ai/download.html
- Create a free account. Sign in at heapfile.com and download the desktop app for your operating system.
- Install it. A user-only install on Windows; drag to Applications on macOS. It runs from the tray or menu bar.
- Connect your AI. Paste the line above into Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, or Cursor, or install the VS Code extension. It registers HeapFile and verifies the connection.
- Check it worked. In a new session, ask your AI to remember a test note and find it again.

Trust
Local-first, telemetry off, and nothing connects without you.
Memory stays on your computer unless you turn on a cloud feature. A connector contacts its provider only over a route you authorize, and HeapFile names the permission level and data route first. A listed connector is not an authorized connector, and we make no compliance or partnership claims. Read the trust page, the privacy notice, the security review, and the data controls; see the connector catalog; or contact support.
